Health groups join forces

Members of the Millicent and Beachport communities are backing the second stage of the upgrade to the spartan accommodation for student nurses at Millicent Hospital which dates back almost 60 years.

Members of the Millicent and Surrounds Health Support Group have joined forces with the Millicent Health Advisory Council to upgrade the on-site accommodation.

The rationale of the two groups is to create comfortable accommodation and a positive experience for student nurses in the hope they may continue in the long term their nursing careers at Millicent.

MASH Group spokesman Darrell Looker said the second stage is to upgrade the kitchen and dining area and it will take place next month when the student nurses are on their one-week semester break.

“We have had a built-in kitchen donated and it will be installed by the Lions Club of Beachport and Rivoli Bay,” Mr Looker said.

“It has been donated by Ash and Fiona Dearman and they also supplying appliances.

“Ash is a Lions Club member.

“The bench tops will be provided by Colin Davies, of Kustom Kabinets.”

This third stage of the upgrade is set to take place at the end of 2023.

This will involve the removal of the bath, installation of two shower cubicles and the partitioning of the toilet.
