Health service forward planning

Key opportunities and future health needs of the local community will be identified in service planning now under way for Mount Gambier Health Service.

Limestone Coast Local Health Network chief executive Ngaire Buchanan said the planning would be led by a Service Planning Steering Group including members from the local community, clinicians, allied health staff, members from the Health Advisory Council and staff from the Rural Support Service, who will work together to develop a plan for health services in the Mount Gambier region.

“The service planning process is an important step to ensure we continue to develop and expand our services to better meet the needs of our local community both now and into the future,” Ms Buchanan said.

“An important part of this planning process is to seek perspectives from the people that use our services and our partners who provide valuable services to our community.

“We are encouraging people to have their say and provide input into the planning by filling out a survey online, collecting a survey from Mount Gambier Hospital or sending an email to us directly.

“We look forward to continuing to strengthen our partnerships with the community to develop a plan that will focus on delivering the best health care possible to Mount Gambier and surrounding communities.”

Ms Buchanan said the Steering Group will consult with a range of stakeholders, consumers, local clinicians and members of the community through workshops and community engagement opportunities over the coming months to shape the final service plan.

“It’s our priority to work together with the community to ensure the service plan continues the delivery of care that our community needs, closer to home,” Ms Buchanan said.

“We are committed to working with our stakeholders who are an integral part of service planning to deliver the final plan, with clinician workshops expected to start in the coming months.”

The Service Planning Survey is available online at, at the entrances to Mount Gambier Hospital, or an email with feedback can be sent to  Feedback closes on April 9.

The service plan for future health services in Mount Gambier is expected to be complete by mid-2021.
