The SE Voice Winter Warmth Community Campaign warmed the hearts and bodies of the region’s less fortunate last year.
More than 15 local businesses donated a range of goods to ac.care to support those doing it tough during the colder months as the levels of homelessness were rising due to the rental crisis and increased cost of living.
ac.care Homelessness and Community Services senior manager Trish Spark said the campaign created noticeable momentum in donations to the ac.care Mount Gambier Community Centre.
“It was actually amazing to see the real diverse range of businesses jump on board to help,” she said.
“Their support varied from cash donations, clothes and blankets, through to food and other basic household items.
“We had a lot of jackets and winter clothing, which helped us ensure people were able to receive items that would keep them warm.
“It was amazing to see how many individual people were also donating after reading about the campaign.”
Ms Spark said the campaign not only brought awareness of ac.care and the community centre, but also highlighted the extent of the needs of some people in the community.
“I think the campaign helped some people understand how vulnerable people in our community are living and what can be done to support them,” she said.
“We cannot thank The SE Voice enough for its leadership, as well as all the businesses and residents that provided donations.”
Ms Spark said the community centre – located at 22 Ferrers Street – accepted donations year-round, with food and clothing among the priority items currently.
“If it is clean and in relatively new condition, we will be able to accept it and ensure it is given to a resident,” Ms Spark said.
“If you’re unsure, please call us on (08) 7725 3000 or email care@accare.org.au to discuss.”
The SE Voice sincerely thank all the individuals and businesses who donated.
