The Stand Like Stone Foundation has announced its annual educational scholarships as the region’s students head back to school and university.
The foundation has offered 42 scholarships totalling $87,800 to students right across the Limestone Coast.
Stand Like Stone Chair Georgie McKay said there were 74 applications for this year’s scholarships which will local students to complete studies across all levels of education, both locally, across South Australia and interstate.
“Thanks to the ongoing generosity of our donors, we’re thrilled to be able to continue supporting local students in a variety of ways, whether it’s paying for school fees, assisting with the purchase of course equipment, through to assisting with general living expenses or accommodation costs for students studying away,” she said.
Ms McKay said one of this year’s successful recipients is Mount Gambier resident Josh Tresidder, whose application embodied the very essence of Stand Like Stone, inspiring courage and determination whilst overcoming life’s challenges.
“Josh, who has received support through the LE & NC Myers Educational Scholarship fund, has shown a great deal of determination in dealing with a challenging childhood, but has been equally determined to support others through volunteering within his local community and also wants to contribute back to the Limestone Coast once he completes his studies, he’s a real an inspiration to all,” she said.
“The scholarship from Stand Like Stone will provide Josh with financial support for his living expenses whilst studying a Bachelor of Digital Business at the University of SA.
“Our scholarships are all about giving local students the opportunity to thrive so they, in turn, can make great contributions to our community in the future.”
