There are fresh hopes for an upgrade of the Southern Ports Highway between Millicent and Beachport.
The 35km section of road is a State Government responsibility and its condition has frequently drawn criticism from Wattle Range Council, the general public and the RAA motoring organisation.
A recent council meeting heard the road may be eligible for federal funding with council opting to lobby Transport Minister Corey Wingard and the Infrastructure and Transport Department, calling for State Government to make application to the Federal Government’s Remote Roads Upgrade Pilot Program.
It will also write to the Federal Government, Barker MP Tony Pasin and MacKillop MP Nick McBride showing support for the program and asking the road length criteria be reduced to 10km or more to deliver greater infrastructure outcomes.
