The Limestone Coast is well represented in the AFL with plenty of home-grown players starring on the national stage.
The SE Voice’s sports journo Will Boston takes a look at how our locals fared in Round 19.
Jordan Dawson
Jordan Dawson had a solid game in the Crows’ thrilling win over the Bombers with 20 disposals, five tackles and three clearances.
Once again Dawson was great at contributing to the team’s scoring as he had a goal assist, six score involvements and a score launch.
The captain kicked the ball well in the game and had minimal turnovers when kicking as he had a kicking efficiency of 85.7%.
This week the Crows have a tough match-up as they face the hot Hawks in Adelaide.
Darcy Fogarty
After having a tough game last week Darcy Fogarty responded well in Round 19, having a big game against the Bombers.
Fogarty had 17 disposals, eight marks and four goals.
Once again the Fog was a vocal piece in the Crows’ forward line as he had nine score involvements and a score launch.
Fogarty continued to be a marking threat in the forward line as he had two marks inside 50 and three marks on a lead.
This week Fogarty will have to continue his great play as the Crows face the Hawks on Sunday.
Mitch Hinge
After missing last week’s game Mitch Hinge was back and put up a solid performance in his return.
Hinge had 24 disposals, three marks and two clearances in the win.
Hinge was back to his best at moving the footy as he had eight rebound 50s while having a disposal efficiency of 87.5%.
This week Hinge has a tough task against a tough in-form Hawks’ forward line on Sunday.
Mason Redman
Mason Redman had a pretty good game against the Crows on Friday night, finishing with 24 disposals, five marks and a goal.
Red Dog was all over the field on the night and helped set up a lot of scores as he had a season high eight score involvements as well as recording two score launches and a goal assist.
Redman moved the ball really well as he led the game in metres gained with 662.
This week the Bombers will look to get back on track as they face the Saints on Saturday afternoon.
Rowan Marshall
Rowan Marshall had another big game as the Saints picked up a solid win over the Eagles.
Marshall had 26 disposals, five marks, 10 clearances and 24 hit outs.
Marshall was once again solid at getting involved in the team’s scoring as had four score involvements while also having three score launches.
This week Marshall and the Saints have a tough game as they face the Bombers.
Jeremy Cameron
Jeremy Cameron was not at his usual best on Saturday night as the Cats fell to the Doggies.
Cameron recorded six disposals, three tackles and just one goal.
Jezza did not kick his best as he had three shots at goal while only having three score involvements and a goal assist.
This week Cameron and the Cats should get back on track as they take on the Roos in Hobart.
Brad Close
Brad Close had another quiet game on Saturday night, finishing with 11 disposals, a career high seven tackles as well as kicking a goal.
Close was not as involved as he usually is in the forward line as he only had three score involvements for the night but he picked it up on the defensive side of the ball as he had 30 pressure acts.
This week Close should be back to his best as the Cats face the Roos.
The last time these sides faced Closed kicked four goals.
Lachie Neale
After putting up some amazing numbers over the past few weeks Lachie Neale came back down to earth on Sunday against the Swans.
Neale had 18 disposals, two marks, four tackles and six clearances.
The kid from Kyby was not the best in front of goal as he had two shots and came up with nothing on both occasions.
Neale still did well to set up teammates to score, as he recorded four score involvements as well as a score launch.
As the Lions winning streak continues and they now sit in the top four they will need to keep that momentum going as they face the Suns on Saturday on the Gold Coast.
Tom McDonald
Tom McDonald had a pretty solid game against the Dees on Sunday finishing with 18 disposals, eight marks and 11 kicks.
Once again McDonald did well at getting involved in the teams scoring as he had four score involvements and two score launches.
Defensively McDonald was once again elite as he recorded seven spoils.
Now the Dees are out of the top eight they desperately need a win this week but it will not be easy as they face the Giants at the G on Saturday night.
