Hobitz shoot to back-to-back A Grade premierships

A Grade Hobitz 58 d Saints 26

Hobitz go back-to-back with A Grade premiership!

After a commanding undefeated season, Hobitz claimed the A Grade premiership in emphatic style.

Hobitz have been a permanent fixture in the A Grade finals for many years, while this was Saints first appearance since 2018.

Holding Saints to just 10 goals until half time, Hobitz were clinical with their defensive pressure, picking off any wayward pass and swiftly converting it to a goal.

Hobitz WA Hayley Burner commanded the mid-court creating plenty of turnovers and delivering the ball to captain and goal shooter Jordi Gower with speed and pinpoint accuracy.

The quick feet of Hobitz goal defence Chelsea Hara and the precision timing of goal keeper Suzanne Crowe caused uncertainty and hesitation for the Saints attack, limiting the Saints scoring opportunities.

While the Hobitz combinations remained unchanged, Saints showed the depth of their squad by making some key second half changes to positive effect.

Ultimately however, the margin was too great to make up and Hobitz ran out convincing winners.

A2 Intruders 33 d Hobitz Red 30

The last time Intruders and Hobitz Red met during the home and away season Intruders snagged a 25 goal victory and entered the grand final as the hot favourites.

Hobitz Red chose to ignore this suggestion and got down to business from the very first whistle, finding connections and converting from turnovers to create a one goal lead at quarter time.

Intruders rose to the challenge and shifted the momentum of the match in the second quarter with eight more scoring shots being converted into a four goal lead at half time.

The wind became the third opponent on the court in the second half as defensive pressure forced the shooters to take the chance on long bombs and the wind repeatedly pushing the ball off course and creating turnovers.

Both teams worked hard to get their shooters closer to the post with the pressure forcing held balls and uncharacteristic errors at both ends of the court.

In the final quarter Hobitz got out to a two goal lead, however Intruders maintained the pressure and chased every ball to turn the two goal deficit into a three goal victory in an absolute thriller.

B1 Saints Black 33 d Intruders Black 19

Entering the grand final as undefeated minor premiers, Saints Black deservedly had confidence, however Intruders had played two exceptional games of netball in the first two weeks of finals and arrived at the grand final with a spring in their step.

Saints’ defenders Kim Harvey and Emalie Albert made life difficult for the Intruders shooters from the first whistle, collecting rebounds with ease and intercepting any attempt to pass over their long arms.

The depth and versatility in the attacking end gave Saints valuable options against the tight Intruders defenders.

Through the midcourt both teams displayed tremendous drive and pressure over the ball especially from Jasmine Boisvert (Intruders) and Amy Wilke (Saints), forcing both teams to make errors that were quickly picked up by the opposition.

Intruders made whole court changes late in the game in an attempt to disrupt Saints’ momentum, however Saints increased their lead at every break and pulled away during the last quarter to record a 14 goal win.

B2 Amazons 32 d Saints 31

Top of the ladder Saints and third placed Amazons provided one of the most thrilling games of the day with a hard-fought see-sawing game to crown the B2 premiers.

The last time these two teams faced each other back in round 16 the match resulted in a draw, so this was anyone’s game to win.

Saints got off to a quick start with goal attack Rachel Mitchell shooting nine goals in a dominant first quarter display, with her side finishing the quarter ahead 12-6.

Amazons’ defensive pressure reduced the impact of the Saints attack in the second quarter, cutting the margin to four.

Amazons have shown all season a controlled and calm brand of netball when the pressure is on which kept their unforced errors low and the ball in their hands.

Saints made some big changes in the second half to create some new options, however Amazons remained unchanged and continued to chip away at the scoreline.

There were just two goals in it entering the last quarter with Amazons goal defence Kalina Watts shutting down the Saints shooters, and Amazons goal shooter Maddi Sutterby converting at the other end.

Amazons were able to get out in front when it mattered and hold on for a one goal win.
