Hockey goals galore

The goals were coming thick and fast in round 13 of the Lower South East Hockey Association season at Blue Lake Sports Park.

The favourites in Division 1 women’s games lived up to expectations with some big wins.

Coming up against a winless Strikers team, Redbacks cruised to a 5-0 thumping under the Friday night lights.

Strikers would have held high hopes of a competitive night after it pushed Redbacks to the edge in the previous clash in round 10.

But this time the Redbacks women  were in another league and were untroubled across the four quarters.

Jemma Heraper led the scoring with two goals off her own stick, while Lauren  Manser, Jade Delaney and Xara Blackwell also defeated the goalkeeper.

Stephanie Wightson took the highest  amount of captain votes for a strong performance around the pitch.

West maintained its perfect record  against Tigers in 2021 on Saturday afternoon.

Following 2-0, 4-0, 1-0 and 3-0 victories, West added a 4-1 success to consolidate its ladder lead.

Angela Broad did the damage with a  dominant performance around the shooting circle.

She scored a hat-trick to put the result beyond doubt, while Lily Delaland also scored.

Latisha scored her first goal of the season to out Tigers on the board.

The stakes rise this weekend when Redbacks and West face off in a top of the table fight on Saturday evening.

West holds the advantage by winning the latest clash, plus a 5-2 win back in round 5, but Redbacks has shown it is up with the fight with a pair of draws.

Tigers and Strikers will do battle later that evening where both sides will be keen to break free after the last two bouts were scoreless.

Scores for last weekend’s Division 1 men’s battles were not available at the time of print.

On Sunday afternoon Strikers looked in complete control against Redbacks  scoring goals with ease, while ladder-leaders Tigers was expected to topple West.
