Hospital open day
plans well under way

Planning is well advanced for an open day at Millicent and District Hospital which has been tentatively scheduled for October 24.

The Millicent and District Health Advisory Council has been buoyed by the success of the last such venture in 2019 when hundreds walked through the grounds, wards and operating theatres.

Millicent Hospital Executive Officer and Director of Nursing Michelle de Wit said the Millicent Health Advisory Council (HAC) have established a working party to lead the planning of this year’s Millicent Hospital open day.

“Planning is under way to determine what sort of activities, tours, displays and stalls will be featured at the event,” she said.

“The Millicent Hospital open day is a fantastic opportunity to engage with the local community and strengthen the link between our health service, staff and the community we serve.

“We will continue to work together with the HAC to ensure the event can go ahead in a COVID-safe way and look forward to sharing more details with the community once finalised.”

Back in 2019, there were food and other stalls run by auxiliary groups and eye-catching stunts performed by member for MacKillop Nick McBride and local nurses and other hospital staff.

The hospital has a workforce of 150 and many off-duty staff members were involved.

The 2019 open day was also the start and finish point for a fun run staged by Millicent Runners.

No such open day could be held in 2020 on account of the COVID protocols.

The October 24 date has been earmarked as it coincides with the annual Millicent underage basketball tournament which brings hundreds of junior competitors to the Peter Seebohm Stadium and other indoor venues.
