House prices soar

The price of Mount Burr houses has soared well past the $400,000 mark.

A local agent listed a renovated post-war dwelling in June with a suggested price range of $399,000 to $429,000.

It has recently sold to local interests for $425,000.

Erected in 1950, the timber-framed house in tree-lined Ingram Street has three bedrooms and one bathroom.

The vendor was a local resident and the sale was arranged via a Millicent-based agent.

The timber house had previously been owned by various State Government agencies (Woods and Forests Department and Housing Trust).

Between the early 1930s and the late 1960s, all houses in Mount Burr were owned by the State Government and now only a handful remain in public ownership.
