AFTER breaking her leg playing netball, Alyssa Humphries’ return to the cricket arena is nothing short of spectacular.
The 24-year-old joined the Victorian women’s team at last week’s Australian Country Cricket Championships, where the Vics annihilated the competition, bringing home the grand prize.
Played in T20 format, the side took to the field for 10 regular games, plus two finals over six days, dropping just one match to South Australia in round five in the last two balls of the game.
Despite her restriction to just one match per day due to the netball injury, Humphries made it count, named at number three and four in the batting order across the tournament, rotating the strike and successfully caretaking from the non-striker’s end.
Facing South Australia in the first final, the Vic’s took the ball in hand to see the opposition dismissed with just 59 runs on the board and at in the 10th over of the Victorian innings, Humphries was at the crease when teammate Amy Yates hit the match winning four runs.
After easily accounting for New South Wales in the first round of finals, Queensland was no match for Victoria in the final showdown, Humphries again the last woman standing as her side batted out its overs to post 109, before seeing Queensland dismissed for just 50 in the 16th over.
