Hunt gets Attamurra championship campaign off to perfect start

Last Wednesday was a perfect day weather-wise for the opening round of the Mount Gambier Women’s Club Championships at Attamurra.

A total of 40 ladies participated in A, B and C Grades in the opening qualifying round, while D Grade played a stableford competition.

Newcomer Rosalie Hunt (30) stole the show to record the best nett score of the day carding a split of 47/48/95 for a nett 65.

Hunt played eight shots under her handicap and got her campaign off to a flying start.

Once again in the winning circle was Janina Morrison (24) taking out second best nett score of the day registering 91/24/67, playing six shots under her handicap and scoring five pars to compliment her great score.

Chris Galpin (25) took out third placing on a count-back from Vicki Clark.

Galpin played a consistent game her split being 47/49.

Despite missing out on a podium berth, Clark earned herself three balls for the NTP on the eighth, while Jennifer Van Rijthoven, Kate McCormick and Mary Kentish also took the honours in their respective grades.

Played in conjunction with the Qualifying Round was a Stableford event which was easily won by a very happy golfer in Liz Clements (43) after a fine round of 40 points.

Leading the first round of the Qualifying Round is Kerry Pedlar with 82 off the stick.

She is followed by Jan Shanahan and Faye Mainwaring, who are two and three shots back, while five other players are close behind.

Playing in Division 2, Janina Morrison opened an early advantage with her score of 91 off the stick, while Jeannette Braun sits three shots back.

Division 3 only had six players qualifying with Rosalie Hunt leading the way with 95 off the stick, followed by Vicki Clark on 98.

Next week the quarter finals begin followed in the field by non-qualifiers playing a Stableford.

A total of 16 women played the difficult game of Par last Saturday in great golfing weather.

Helen Gregory (13) was the winner with a great score of two up which included six wipe-outs and eight wins.

Jan Shanahan (18) continued her good form to come in second place with one up on her card, while third place went to Kathy Ewer (2) who went square to the card.
