An analysis of the annual international and domestic Google Searches relating to popular road trips has revealed that Australia’s Great Ocean Road is the ninth most popular in the world.
Driving and driver-safety website Zutobi conducted the analysis, which found the Great Ocean Road trip is Australia’s favourite road trip.
With 677,200 annual searches, it was also found to be the world’s ninth most anticipated road trip.
While the main spectacle of the Great Ocean Road can be found in Victoria at the 12 Apostles, the road trip journeys across the South East of South Australia, with Tourism Australia itineraries incorporating Port Fairy, Robe, Coonawarra and then Victoria and Adelaide.
According to a breakdown of its methodology, Zutobi looked at multiple online articles listing popular routes to create lists of global, US and UK road trips.
By using Google Ads Keyword Planner, the website was then able to find out the number of annual searches globally and domestically for each road trip.
To discover which was the most searched road trip in every country, it then used Ahrefs Keyword Explorer, a piece of software that allows you to rank keywords.
