In front of a crowd of 100 players, supporters, family and friends the West Gambier Football Netball Club inducted two new members in each of the club’s Immortal and Hall of Fame categories.
All nominees were greeted with tremendous applause as their accolades were read out by club president Shane Giddings.
The four new additions bring the Immortals number to nine and Hall of Fame to 10 inducted into the two categories. Inaugural members were inducted in 2024.
IMMORTAL

Sharon Watson – 7 A grade Best and Fairest in 1995, ‘96, ‘97, ‘99, 2002, ‘04, ‘06; A reserve B & F: 2010; 3 League B & F: A grade 1997, A reserve 2009, 2010; Western Border Netball league representative; WGNC Life Member; WGNC three decades team of the year.

Liz Jarnevic – A grade B & F 1994, 2003,2007; A Reserve B & F 1993, 1998,2009; 300 game player; WGNC Life Member; WGNC two decades team of the year player.
HALL OF FAME

Barry Maney (accepted by son Kym) – Life membership in 1969; 172 games for the West gambier football club; Committee from 1970 to 1985; During that tenure he served on recruiting committee in 1970; Membership committee in 1971; Chairman of Development committee 1973 – 1975; 1973 whilst chairman of development committee he was on the recruiting committee; 1977 club vice president; 1981 Chairman Grounds committee; Chairman of the Board 1985; Club Patron for an incredible of 32 years from 1978 to 2014.

Barry Ward – Transferred from Adelaide to Mount Gambier in 1962 on the football contribution; In 1963 he made his debut for West Gambier in the Southeast Border Football League; West Gambier Life Member 1979; 296 Senior Games for WGFC 1963-1980 – 5th on the WGFC all-time list; 198 A Grade and 98 Reserves games; West Gambier A Grade Best and Fairest 1965 – Runner up 1968,’72, ‘76; A Grade premiership player 1971; Captain and Assistant Coach 1979 Reserves Premiership; Western Border Reserves League Best and Fairest Medallist 1979; Three years on development committee raising funds to purchase Malseed Park surrounds, grounds and building; Coordinator with Barry Maney of clearing works of vegetation and assistance of development of ovals and grounds including planting the trees bordering the complex; Four years on social committee for the new Malseed Park Football Club 1974; Five Years as club treasurer including inaugural committee of the new Malseed Park Football Complex in 1974; Archivist and historian for years prior to handover to Megan McKenzie; Seven years volunteer on gate for home games 1982-1989; Six years on barbecue 2016-2022 sitting in the shed, telling stories and watching the football.
