Community screenings of The Last Daughter were recently held in Mount Gambier to tell the compelling story of Wiradjuri woman Brenda Matthews.
After being raised by a white foster family, Brenda was taken away as a young girl and returned to her Aboriginal family, whom she did not know.
Decades later, the film follows her journey to discover where she truly belongs.
Screenings were held at the Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre.
This National Reconciliation Week event was staged by ac.care in collaboration with the City of Mount Gambier, Wattle Range Council and the Limestone Coast Local Health Network.
There was also a screening of The Last Daughter scheduled at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre.
However, a technical glitch meant the film could not be shown.
Popcorn was still served by Sally Milsom who hosted the night and is the acting executive officer/director of nursing at Millicent and District Hospital.
She announced at the screening that she would be continuing in the role for the next 12 months.
