Indoor bowls compete for honours

The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association held its second championship event last Thursday night.

The Adrian Pearson Lawn and Garden Care/Marina and Perria Davis Men’s Pairs Championship plus the Yahl Indoor Bowls Club/Henry Kerr Memorial Ladies Pairs Championship were up for grabs.

Although entries were a little lower than last year the standard and interested remained strong with some new faces making the finals.

In the ladies semi-finals, the Glenburnie pair of Fiona Rochow and Serena Bourn defeated the Post-Tel.

The Wandilo combined team of Lorraine VanDen Hoogen and Keisha Pearson performed winning their contest nine shots to three.

The pair of Nola Spencer and Kathy Gray from Moorak defeated the team from Blue Lake Bowlers, Bronwyn Hill and Emma Freemantle by just a single shot.

The final of the Yahl Indoor Bowls Club/Henry Kerr Memorial Ladies’ Pairs Championship was taken out by the Glenburnie pair Rochow and Bourn who defeated Nola Spencer and Kathy Gray, 10 shots to two in a one-sided affair.

The men’s semi-finals saw the Wandilo Water Rats team of Peter Gregory and Tony Bowditch defeat the Post-Tel pair of Wayne Legutko and Zac Pearson five shots to three and soar into the decider.

In the other semi-final the Commercial Club team of Vincent Oakley and Jos Breuker defeated another Post-Tel team of Jim Pearson and Craig Pearson six shots to four.

The Wandilo Water Rats pair, Gregory and Bowditch defeated the Commercial Club pair of Oakley and Breuker to claim the Adrian Pearson Lawn and Garden Care/Marina and Perria Davis championship for the fourth time in succession 10 shots to three.

The Ladies’ consolation contest was played between the Saints team of Shirley Gifford and Jennifer Bowering defeat the combined Moorak and Wandilo pair of Johanna Gogan and Nicola Bowditch seven shots to two.

In the men’s consolation final the Blue Lake Bowlers team of Robert Freemantle and Thomas Butler were too strong for the Saints Team of Chris Shentall and Gary Bowering 7-4.
