Independent Member for MacKillop Nick McBride has suggested the State Government allocate an extra $112m for infrastructure in his electorate.
He made the request to Treasurer Stephen Mullighan in the House of Assembly during Question Time last week.
Mr McBride said he had just heard the Reserve Bank had cut interest rates by 0.25%.
He said the State Government had debts of $45b according to the Forward Estimates and so the rate cut improved the budget situation by $112m.
Speaker Leon Bignell allowed the question but described it as “cheeky”.
In reply, Minister Mullighan said the impact of the Reserve Bank interest rate cut was still being assessed by the State Government.
He said it was unlikely the funds would be allocated exclusively to the MacKillop electorate as 46 other MPs would be looking for a share of the funds.
Minister Mullighan said further information about the situation would be provided when he hands down the 2025/26 State Budget in June.
During question Time, Mr McBride also quizzed ministers about the relative few Senior Card discounts offered to MacKillop residents as well as the replacement of broken lights on the Cape Jaffa jetty.
