Blue Lake v International
International took on Blue Lake on Sunday in the Limestone Coast Premier League Senior Men’s competition and came away with the three points in the low scoring affair.
In the first half both sides were very evenly matched as neither team could take the lead in the half, with scores locked at 0-all at half time.
The script changed in the second as Inter were awarded a penalty at the beginning of the half, with Sam Bueti stepping up to score a goal to break the tie and give Inter the lead.
However, Inter’s lead was not secured as they still had to hold it for the rest of the half.
The black and blue did well to hold off Blue Lake’s relentless attack as the Rangers battled hard to get back into the match and to come away with points.
However, Inter’s defence was far too strong for Blue Lake as they failed to equalise the score in the second half and ultimately fell short.
Inter defeated Blue Lake 1-0.
Naracoorte United v Gambier Centrals
Gambier Centrals headed to Naracoorte on Sunday to take on Naracoorte United as both sides battled it out for the Jockey Hyslop Memorial Trophy.
After not playing for two weeks Centrals started slow but eventually got themselves into the game.
Sam Shoemark and Jake Blackwell started well for Centrals, scoring two quick goals to give Centrals a two goal lead early on.
After the fast start Naracoorte slowed down Centrals as they tried to stop the lead from blowing out before the half ended.
However Centrals continued to put the pressure on Naracoorte as the home side conceded another goal close to the end of the half.
Lewis March put the ball in the back of the net and helped his side to a three goal lead at half time.
It did not take long for Centrals to put the pressure back on Naracoorte in the new half as Shoemark scored two goals early on to seal his hattrick and a five goal lead for his side.
Shoemark was not done as he scored another halfway through the half to bring Centrals to a six goal lead.
Ending the game on a high for Centrals, Finn Dickson scored his first senior goal to help seal the victory for Centrals.
Gambier Centrals defeated Naracoorte United 7-0.
Centrals Club president and team manager Shane Dycer was pleased with his side’s success as well as the performances from both the younger and older players.
“We were pretty good on Sunday, after two weeks off we were a little bit rusty but as the game went on we got better and better,” he said.
“We were missing a couple on Sunday so we blooded a few more of the juniors, Finn Dickson scored his first goal in seniors and Patrick Dycer debuted as well off the bench so those boys got a bit of experience on Sunday and did well.
“Sam Shoemark was back to his best now that he is fit again and Jake Blackwell and Lewis March were really good as well and they have been good for the last six weeks.”
