International talent enhances physio services at CMH

CASTERTON Memorial Hospital is expanding its physiotherapy services as part of an ongoing commitment to increasing services for the local community.

The recent addition to the team of experienced physiotherapist, Setfree Maposa, will help meet the growing demand for high-quality physio care in Casterton and surrounding areas, supporting local residents to maintain their health, mobility and quality of life.

Mr Maposa joins the Allied Health team at CMH with extensive experience in musculoskeletal health, occupational health and injury rehabilitation.

Prior to relocating to Casterton, he worked in the private sector and the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK, as well as in Namibia and Zimbabwe.

His holistic approach and patient focus make him a perfect fit for the local community.

“I have always been passionate about science and helping people, and physiotherapy combines both,” Mr Maposa said.

“It’s a fulfilling career where I can make a tangible difference in people’s lives.”

Mr Maposa focuses on treating the person, not just the condition, taking time to understand each patient’s unique health journey.

“My goal is to improve mobility, strength and function while preventing pain and discomfort,” he said.

“Whether it’s walking, climbing stairs, or getting out of bed, physiotherapy is about making everyday tasks easier.”

The innovative international recruitment campaign at CMH aims to attract a talented workforce to the town, but it is really the supportive Casterton community that encourages people to stay and thrive.

Mr Maposa and his wife, Praise Mkumbuzi, who is a registered nurse at the hospital, are grateful to have found a welcoming and tight-knit community they can call home.

“The local support has been fantastic – it’s a place where we feel at home, and that has made settling down, a smooth and enjoyable experience for our family,” he said.

Dual CMH and Western District Health Service (WDHS) chief executive, Rowena Clift highlighted the continuous collaboration and peer support across both health services.

“We’re increasing service access to the community,” she said.

“Supported by the ongoing training and assistance from the team at WDHS, Mr Maposa is quickly familiarising himself with the specific needs of our aged care residents and patients.”

CMH Acting Manager Nursing Services Manager, Heather Gill, applauded the success of the international recruitment efforts that brought Mr Maposa and his family to Casterton.

“We originally hired Praise as a registered nurse and it’s wonderful to also have Setfree as a public physiotherapist offering services four days a week to patients, residents and the wider community,” she said.

“Having them here is a real asset to our hospital and to the town.”

Both Mr Maposa and Ms Mkumbuzi have embraced the local lifestyle, with their family enjoying all that Casterton has to offer.

“The parks here are amazing, and our kids love the local swimming pool,” Mr Maposa said.

“We have also enjoyed attending events like the Casterton Street Drags, which have such great energy.

“It’s wonderful to be a part of a community that offers so much to families and makes us feel so welcome.”
