Former prominent Millicent business identities John and Anne Higginson have recently severed their last commercial tie with the town.
They moved to the Adelaide Hills soon after selling their Millicent Newsagency business in 2004 to Mildura couple Paul and Barb Smith.
However, the Higginsons retained freehold ownership of the Glen Street building which houses the newsagency.
After a lengthy period on the market, the building freehold has recently been purchased by out-of-town investors.
The building sale was promoted on social media and some have come to the wrong conclusion the Smiths had sold the newsagency business.
Two generations of the Higginson family had come to Millicent in the 1970s to serve as the town’s newsagents.
John Higginson had arguably the highest profile of any of its 6000 residents.
He was a Justice of the Peace, served as a councillor on the then Millicent District Council and was involved in many local organisations.
They included the Millicent Football Club, Boneham Aged Care Services and Millicent Business Community Association.
