Jetty upgrade work to begin

It is hoped the $4.5m upgrade of the Beachport jetty will be completed in this calendar year.

The green light for the overhaul was given last September but no start date has yet to be given by the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure.

The record outlay in dollar terms will ensure the long-term structural integrity of the 140-year-old jetty for all users.

The scope of works includes the refurbishment, replacement or repair of much of the jetty’s timber and iron fixtures.

“Works will typically occur on and near the jetty landings, ramp and towards the sea end of the jetty,” stated the DTEI.

“To safely facilitate these works, the sea end of the jetty will be closed to the public. “The shore end will be closed intermittently as required with advance notice signage in place to advise jetty users.

“There may be periods of time when the jetty fuel supply will be impacted, however advanced notice will be provided.

“Works are anticipated to start early this with completion expected by the end of 2022, weather permitting.

“Further updates will be provided about the work later this year when the start dates and working hours are confirmed.”
