Jezza gets job done

The Limestone Coast is well represented in the AFL with plenty of home-grown players starring on the national stage.

The SE Voice’s sports journo Will Boston takes a look at how our locals fared in Round 19.

Tom McDonald

It was a tough night for Tom McDonald and the Dees on Friday as they fell to the Doggies.

McDonald finished with 12 disposals, five marks and three tackles.

McDonald was a key piece in the Dees backline as he did well at moving the footy as he had five rebound 50s.

If McDonald and the Dees want to make finals this week’s game against the Power at the G is a must win.

Toby Pink

Toby Pink and the Roos picked up their third win of the season on Saturday, beating the Tigers.

Pink’s involvement in the game was limited as he had six disposals, two marks and a tackle in the win.

Pink did well to get involved in the forward line as he had a goal assist and two score involvements.

Pink did have an opportunity at a goal but missed the shot and picked up the minor score.

This week Pink and the Roos head to Hobart to face the Eagles on Saturday.

Jeremy Cameron

Jeremy Cameron had his biggest game of the season on Saturday as the Cats came away with a five point win over the Crows.

Cameron finished with 17 disposals, eight marks, three tackles and a tied season high six goals.

After struggling in front of goal for the past few weeks Jezza was great in this game as he had eight shots at goal with a goal accuracy percentage of 75%.

He was seemingly everywhere in the forward line as he had nine score involvements and a score launch.

The Cats have another tough game this week as they take on the Dockers at Optus on Saturday.

Brad Close

Brad Close had a bit of a quieter game on Saturday against the Crows.

Close finished with nine disposals, one mark and two tackles.

Close failed to kick a goal in this game which is only the second time this has happened this season.

Although he did not impact the scoreboard directly Close still found a way to impact the game without kicking goals.

The former Northie had two goal assists and three score involvements in the win.

This week Close and the Cats have a tough matchup as they face Freo in Perth.

Jordan Dawson

Jordan Dawson had a big game on Saturday against the Cats with 27 disposals, six marks, five tackles and four clearances in the tough loss.

Once again the captain was great at setting up scores for his team as he had a goal assist as well as five score involvements and two score launches.

Dawson read the ball well as he recorded three intercept marks as well as two contested marks.

This week the Crows have another tough opponent as they host the Doggies at Adelaide Oval.

Mitch Hinge

Mitch Hinge had a solid outing on Saturday against the Cats, finishing with 18 disposals, six marks, two tackles and a clearance.

Hinge did well at setting up scores for the team as he had a goal assist, five score involvements and a score launch.

Out of the backline Hinge did well at moving the footy as he had four rebound 50s with a kicking efficiency of 92.3%.

This week Hinge will have a tough task as he takes on the Doggies.

Darcy Fogarty

Darcy Fogarty did not have his best game on Saturday against the Cats, registering eight disposals, four marks, two tackles and a goal.

Although he did not get many touches he still made an impact when he did get the footy as he had two goal assists and six score involvements.

The Fog was still a threat in the marking contests as he had two contested marks.

This week Fogarty will have to be back to his best as the Crows face the Doggies.

Mason Redman

Mason Redman had a solid game against the Dockers on Sunday and finished with 27 disposals, eight marks and two clearances.

With the footy, Redman was smart as he had a season high 96.3% disposal efficiency.

Once again Red Dog did well at getting the footy out of the backline as he had five rebound 50s.

Scoring wise Redman did well at getting involved as he had a goal assist, four score involvement and a score launch.

This week the Bombers take on the Suns at Marvel with this being a must win for Essendon if they want to make finals.

Rowan Marshall

Rowan Marshall had a huge game on Sunday against the Lions with 17 disposals, nine marks, seven tackles, four clearances and two goals.

To add to his two goals Marshall also had six score involvements and two score launches.

Marshall was not the best in ruck contests as he competed in 80 contests and finished with 18 hit outs.

This week will be a good matchup for Marshall as the Saints take on the Tigers.

Lachie Neale

Lachie Neale continued his Brownlow campaign on Sunday with another great game.

Neale finished with 33 disposals, six marks, two marks and a season high 13 clearances.

Once again the Kid from Kyby was amazing at setting up scores as he had vwwa goal assist and seven score involvements and a score launch.

Neale found a lot of success around stoppages as 11 of his 13 clearances came from stoppages.

This week the Lions take on the Giants on Saturday at the Gabba.
