Kalangadoo recommits to Mid South East

Kalangadoo does not want to go anywhere and has reaffirmed its commitment to the Mid South Eastern Football and Netball leagues, informing members, supporters and players late last week they intended to remain within the ‘family league’.

Last month the Limestone Coast Regional Football Council signalled the Magpies as one of two clubs to consider a move into a new competition alongside the six Western Border outfits from 2023 and beyond.

It would be the first step in the Council’s plan for the future, but neither Kalangadoo or Penola agreed after almost a month of debating.

Respective Kalangadoo Football and Netball Club presidents Reece Carlson and Narelle Ryan issued a statement to reassure the club’s supporters they would not be acting on the LCRFC’s recommendations.

The presidents said a combined Kalangadoo football and netball committee meeting had been held to discuss the LCRFC’s report.

“As discussed and agreed we have completed our due diligence, however we are making a strong statement and commitment to the Mid South Eastern Football and Netball League,” they said.

“The 2022 Mid South Eastern Football and Netball League season is rapidly approaching, and preparations are well under way for another successful year at the Kalangadoo Football and Netball Club.

“As a combined, collaborative football and netball club we would like to make an assurance to everyone involved with your club that we are committed to the Mid-South Eastern Football and Netball League.”

The Magpies have become an integral part of the Mid South Eastern competition being a founding member from the beginning.

No team has collected trophies quite like the Kalangadoo A Grade netball outfit, which has won all-but three flags since 1993.

Both Carlson and Ryan are acutely aware of the club’s history in the “Family League” and hope to write more chapters.

“All members, supporters and community members would be well aware of the recent recommendations made by the Limestone Coast Regional Football Board in regard to football in the South East,” they said.

“However our club has a proud history as a founding member of the Mid South Eastern Football and Netball League and we look forward to this continued relationship for years to come.

“Both committees will continue to work together with conviction and diligence having at the forefront an approach of providing for our community the best and most appropriate opportunities for all.

“This is a great sense of excitement about the future and we encourage everyone to embrace this future and continue to be an active part of our inclusive club.”

The presidents said further details would be discussed at upcoming committee meetings.
