Kids compete at gala day

More than 250 students converged at Millicent’s McLaughlin Park Sporting Complex recently to take part in the annual Millicent and District Gala Day.

Primary school aged students competed in the round robin style football and netball event.

Students came from Millicent, Penola, Rendelsham, Glenburnie, Nangwarry, Robe, Glencoe, Compton and Mount Burr, with some combining to field full teams.

The Con Brown Memorial Shield was awarded to the winning football team of the day.

Con Brown was a talented young sportsman from Tantanoola.

He sadly passed away at age 19 and in his honour the Gala Day shield is named after him.

Millicent North Primary School defeated St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School.

St Anthony’s Blue defeated St Anthony’s White 11-6 in senior netball, while Penola Primary defeated Millicent North 4-2 in junior netball.

Organising committee member Donna Denton praised the efforts of all involved in supporting the event.

“A big thank you to all of our sponsors, volunteers, parents and teachers who supported the day,” she said.

A raffle was also held with first prize being a year supply of toilet rolls.

Donated by Kimberly-Clark Australia (KCA) Millicent Mill, the winning ticket was purchased by Ash and Krystal Madden.

Second prize, a $100 Glen Johnson Bowen Therapy voucher, was won by Dave Gellion.
