Kybybolite continues winning ways to lock in top ladder spot

Kybybolite v Casterton Sandford


Kybybolite continued their winning streak on Friday night as they took on Casterton Sandford in Kybybolite for Limestome Coast Women’s Football League round 7 action.


The Tigers got off to a strong start in the opening term, kicking six goals while holding the visiting team scoreless, and after a big first term held a 37 point lead.


In the second frame Kyby kept rolling as they kept registering points on the board while keeping the Cats at bay, holding them to a minor score.


By half time the Tigers were well and truly in control of the game with a 50 point lead.


The Tigers began to slow down in the third as the Cats held them to only a goal.


Despite their defensive work Casterton still struggled up forward as they only managed another minor score.


Despite a down quarter the Tigers still held a comfortable 57 point lead heading into the final term.


In the fourth quarter Kyby’s production remained low as they only added one goal.


Casterton on the other hand got the cogs turning but by then it was too late as their two goal quarter to end the game did not help them out of the hole they dug themselves in the previous three quarters.


Kyby’s Jedah Huf was named best on while Kate Edmonds, Taylor Ryan and Elle Treloar all kicked two goals.


Kybybolite defeated Casterton Sandford 10.5 (65) to 2.4 (16).


HAWKS CAPTAIN: Kongorong captain Evie Sealey kicked three goals in her side’s win over Nangwarry on Sunday.

Nangwarry v Kongorong


Kongorong added another win to their total on Sunday as they took on Nangwarry at Vansittart Park.


The Hawks got off to a solid start, kicking four goals while the Saints could only register a minor score.


Kongorong had almost blown the game open after the first term, leading the Saints by 24 points.


In the second term the Hawks began to pull away from Nangwarry as they held them scoreless while putting five goals on the board.


At half time the Hawks were well in front with a 58 point lead.


The Hawks’ momentum in the third translated from the first half as they kicked four more goals to take their lead to 85 points heading into the final stanza.


Kongorong finished strong as they added six goals which helped seal the win after another scoreless quarter from the Saints.


Kongorong’s Samantha Ham finished as her side’s best while Eadie Mustart kicked four goals.


Kongorong defeated Nangwarry 19.12 (126) to 0.1 (1).


TOUGH LOSS: Despite a three goal performance Chloe Newton and South Gambier fell short to Penola by two points.

Penola came away with a thrilling win over South Gambier on Sunday at Vansittart Park.


The Eagles got away to a solid start, kicking two goals while the Dees could not hit the scoreboard with a major score.


In the second term the Dees finally hit the scoreboard with a goal coupled with several minor scores which cut Penola’s lead to one point at half time.


The Dees struggled early on as they failed to score a goal in the third term while the Eagles were able to kick two goals.


It came right down to the final term when South made a late push to steal the win.


The Dees were able to score two goals which was just short of the margin as time ran out for a match winning goal, falling short by two points.


Penola’s Heidi Berkin was named best on while Angela Broad kicked three goals.


Penola defeated South Gambier 4.2 (26) to 3.6 (24).


BACK ON TRACK: Layla McPherson and North Gambier were back on the winners list on Sunday with a solid win over Mundulla at Vansittart Park.


North Gambier v Mundulla


North Gambier were back on the winners list on Sunday as they defeated Mundulla in the final game of the ‘Do It For Dolly Day’ round as players wore blue arm bands, socks, hair ribbons and face paint.


Both sides started slow, each registering one goal.


North had a slight edge over Mundulla with a minor score which gave them a one point lead.


In the second term North began to pull away as they slotted two goals while Mundulla could only manage one.


At half time North held a 10 point lead.


Mundulla responded well after a slow start to the third, kicking three goals in the term while North only registered one.


North’s lead vanished in the quarter as it was all tied up 31 a piece heading into the final term.


North finished strong as they put five goals on the board which made it hard for Mundulla to match as they could only muster two goals.


North Gambier’s Sarah Edwards was named best on while Alice Tentye continued to put goals on the board with six in the game.


North Gambier defeated Mundulla 9.8 (62) to 7.1 (43).



Under 16


In the under 16 competition Kybybolite took on Hatherleigh on Friday night with the Eagles coming away with a solid 15 point win.


On Sunday at Vansittart Park East Gambier faced Kongorong with the Hawks winning by 48 points.


In the final match of the round North Gambier took on South Gambier with the Tigers picking up an 81 point victory.
