Ladies endure coastal contest

The ninth round of all Lower South East Bowls Association pennants was played on the weekend.


The Ladies Division 1 Team played Beachport at Beachport and won 53 shots to 29 and remain sixth on the ladder.


Both rinks skippered by Kaye Batt and Meredith Hinze won.


The Ladies Division 2 Team had a bye and remain third on the ladder.


Next week the Ladies Division 1 Team will have a bye.


The Ladies Division 2 team will play at Penola against Naracoorte RSL.


The Open Division 2 Pennant Team played Kalangadoo at Kalangadoo and lost 77 shots to 68 shots.


The rink skippered by Scott Degenhardt won by five shots, 27-22.


The Penola Division 2 team is still third on the ladder and next week play Beachport at Beachport.


This game will start at 11am because a social function will be held at the Beachport Bowling Club that evening.


Division 3 North Team played Kingston at Penola and were beaten by 10 shots, 63-73.


The team skippered by Kathy Brooks drew with their rink.


Next week this team will play at Penola against Lucindale.


The Division 3 South Team played away at Mount Gambier RSL and was beaten 96-54.


Peter Starick was the only Penola winning rink on the day.


Next week this team will play away at Mount Gambier.


Last week the Bonnie O’Dowd Memorial A Grade Singles Championship was held with Sue McShane winning over Nannette Wallace.


This was a close game with Sue winning on the final end.


The Night Bowls has 10 teams participating. Any interested bowlers are always welcome to join in on Wednesday nights. Club bowls are available for anyone who does not have any bowls of their own.


Teams consist of three players each.


Any potential players who are not in a team are welcome and can be placed with others in a team.


The night will commence with a barbecue from 5.45pm with games commencing at 6.30pm.


Last week’s winners were Brodie McDonald, Gail Sims and Lilly Hackwell.
