Ladies swing into new year

The 2022 Ladies Golf season started at the Mount Gambier Golf Club last week with the first round of the Summer Cup.

The Summer Cup is generously sponsored by Life Member, Isobel Phillips and is played over four rounds with the best three rounds counted in deciding the winner.

The weather for the opening round was cool but fine, while tee and pin placements were fair to every player in the exceptional field of 37.

With the Fairways running, the scores reflected the great condition of the course.

Heather Teakle found life easy to win Division 1 after recording a wonderful score of 87-21-66.

Teakle carded her best score ever having 87 off the stick with 42 off the stick on the front nine.

A total of 45 off the stick on the harder back nine followed, while a birdie on the sixth hole complimented her overall score.

Second in Division 1 was Sue Coulter and she also played under her handicap with 92-22-70 which included a split of 43/49.

Enthusiastic and evergreen Lyn Hudson took out Division 2 honours.

Hudson played a consistent game and her split of 46 and 52 means the handicapper may pace her in Division 1 this week.

Runner-up in Division 2 went to Linley Gray (37) and it was great to see her back once again in the winning circle after having a lot of time away from golf due to health reasons.

Marie Douglas, Diann Norman, Lorraine Stratford, Andrea Pegler, Lois Harvey, Vicki Clark, Helen Heaver and Kerry Pedlar were rewarded in the ball run-down and these Ladies all had good scores.

Nearest the pin honours on the par 3 eighth hole was the reliable, straight hitter Faye Mainwaring.

A good field of 23 ladies took to the Mount Gambier Golf Club Course last Saturday in fine but windy conditions.

Taking out first place was Pauline Paterson (31) and had a good score of three under her handicap – 101/31/70 with a split was 48/53.

Gemma Winterborn (20) also played under her Handicap by one shot and carded a score of 92/20/72 and registered a lovely Birdie on the 8th Hole .

There were nine balls given out in the ball run-down ranging from Nett 75 to Nett 78.

The Pro Shot on the eighth hole was won by Faye Mainwaring.

Block Entries are now due and can be paid to Janina Morrison our Treasurer/Secretary.

Next Wednesday will see the continuation of the Summer Cup and will be played in a Stroke format.
