Lake main access road sealed

Members of the Lake McIntyre Management Committee have welcomed the recent bitumen sealing of the main access road and parking areas of the Millicent nature reserve.

Wattle Range Council budgeted for the work in its 2021/22 business plan and engaged contractors to undertake the work.

As well as this major task, the volunteers on the Lake McIntyre committee continue with other minor works and routine maintenance.

The list includes weeding, spot spraying, pruning, mowing, watering, rubbish removal and spreading of mulch.

Leg gaiters have been worn on many occasions given the frequent sightings of late of venomous copperhead snakes around Lake McIntyre.

Committee members have also ensured the barbecue area is clean and tidy in readiness for such private pre-booked functions as a wedding and a baby shower.

The committee has made a successful application for a community grant to Iberdrola which operates the Lake Bonney windfarm.

The funds will be applied to an extension of the bird hides.

Additional signage with photos and details of 27 birds often seen at Lake McIntyre have been proposed.
