Lake set to reopen for summer

The Millicent Swimming Lake will reopen towards the end of the week when filtration and chlorination works have been completed.

However, the temporary repairs costing $130,000 have been finished, with the “lake closed” signs soon to be removed despite the temperature in Millicent soaring past 30 degrees on Saturday afternoon.

Some teenagers could not resist the opportunity to have a dip.

The lake is usually operational by the beginning of November but major leaks were found in mid-2023.

As a result, council opted to engage contractors for a re-seal and it is considering a major multi-million-dollar reconstruction using concrete.

Meanwhile, the Nangwarry pool is back in use after nine extra days of closure.

Council advised there had been an unspecified technical failure at Nangwarry but Penola met the usual November 1 opening date.
