Last chance to perform in women’s footy season

It is the final home and away round of the 2022 Veolia Limestone Coast Women’s Football League at Casterton’s Island Park and Penola’s McCorquindale Park on Sunday, where both host sides will look to consolidate finals positions.

The Cats currently sit outside the top four and need a win to sneak into the big league.

But they play host to ladder leaders South Gambier and face an uphill battle to keep their premiership dream alive.

If Casterton Sandford is up and about after coming off the bye last weekend it may provide an upset.

The Demons will be full of confidence after a convincing win against Penola last week and have too many outstanding players for the Cats keep up with.

The likes of Kendall Saffin, Lauren Frost, Tess Andrews, Alice Tentye and Scarlett Creek are all in good form and are the engine room for the Demons team.

Casterton Sandford is also on a high having a win over Kongorong two weeks ago and has fresh legs after the bye and could run with the Demons.

The Cats’ players to watch are Chloe Smith, Zhane Crawford, Carlie Smith and Chantelle Johnstone.

The other game at Casterton will be North Gambier v Mundulla.

Mundulla is on the road again to take on the yellow and black in a game that should be one sided but as the saying goes “you are as good as the other side on the day”.

The girls from Mundulla are strong and after having a good win over Kongorong last week will be eager to get another win on the board and fine-tune in the lead up to finals football.

For the North Tigers guts and determination will be required to give Mundulla a contest and make them earn the points.

Performers to look out for the Mundulla side are Natasha Horne and Grace Langley, while North Gambier turn to Lorelle Walker and Chloe Perryman.

Over at McCorquindale Park Kalangadoo will take on second placed Kybybolite which should be another percentage booster for the latter.

Watching a few games that Kyby have played, their ball movement and teamwork across the ground will make it hard for the Magpies in this game.

Kalangadoo will have to work hard at every contest and skills will be the key.

Della Hannaford, Alice Edmonds, Dellie Brown, Tyler Atkinson, Georgia Gill and Sarah Jude will all be in the mix for Kybybolite, while Kalangadoo will look to Emily Cooney and Jessica Stone to spring a surprise.

Penola hopes to fine-tune its finals preparations against the Millicent girls, who will be at it right from the first bounce.

The Saints are marching off their first win last week and the Eagles went down to the League leaders in South Gambier.

This contest will be hard fought right up until the final siren sound and both sides might be exhausted from the contest.

Penola will be counting on the likes of Shandeen Balshaw, Amanda Wurst, Caroline McGrath and Nell Eastough to get the ball, while for the Saints it will be a team effort.
