The Hamilton Pastoral and Agricultural Society has announced that Professor Richard Eckard will facilitate the second inaugural Peter Schroder Lecture as part of this year’s Sheepvention Rural Expo.
Professor Eckard is the Director of the Primary Industries Climate Challenges Centre at the University of Melbourne.
His groundbreaking research focuses on carbon farming and accounting for carbon-neutral agriculture, managing extreme climate events, and exploring options for agriculture to adapt to a changing climate.
Sheepvention President David Botterill said Professor Eckard has developed the first greenhouse gas accounting tools for agriculture, which have become a nationally recognized framework.
“His expertise extends globally, as he serves as a science advisor to governments in Victoria, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and the EU, as well as international organisations like the International Livestock Research Institute and the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation,” he said.
“We are very excited and honoured to have Professor Eckard join us as part of Sheepvention Rural Expo, he will undoubtedly provide a great insight into his topics of specialty.”
The lecture will take place at Sheepvention Rural Expo on August 5 from 8.30am in the Red Shield Hut.
