Glencoe/Centrals made its intentions clear in the fourth round of the 2020-21 Mount Gambier and Districts Tennis Association Division 3 season on Saturday.

Facing an undefeated Mil Lel Green team away from home, Glencoe/Centrals took the ladder lead after a strong four-set win.

A close encounter was on the cards after both teams split the singles round evenly, but the game broke open in the doubles segment.

Although Mil Lel Green claimed the opening set through Shaun Robinson and CJ Arnold, the home side could not taste anymore success as Glencoe/ Centrals stormed clear.

The duo of James Kipping and Tyler Johnston and sister team of Toneya and Caitlin Carraill were the most dominant with a pair of 6-1 wins as the last five doubles went to Glencoe/ Centrals.

It was a busy day for Mil Lel after its Blue team also played host to Suttontown.

But the home side was put on the back foot early and could only manage two victorious sets after Suttontown controlled proceedings.

Moorak and Uniting Church enjoyed a tight wrestle with only two sets separating the pair.

Led by Nathan Hammond, Moorak took the first three battles as Uniting Church struggled to adapt to the conditions.

Despite claiming two singles wins, Uniting Church was forced onto the back foot again and lost the first three doubles as well.

However, Bec Hogg and Jessica Stuart’s 6-1 win sparked a resurgence for the visitors to win the last three doubles fixtures, but it was not enough to prevent Moorak for taking the honours.

Mount Schank won by the same margin in its duel with West Gambier.

Playing at the base of the dormant volcano, John Ralston pushed the home team to a winning start, but West took the ascendancy with three straight wins led by Ella Jolley.

The tables turned at the end of the singles round as Mount Schank snatched four victories back. However, West hit back with two doubles wins to tie the scores up at five sets each with just two to play.

With the contest on the line, Megan Telford, Rebecca Mcinnes and Cody Hood stood tall to claim the last pair of doubles and the overall win for Mount Schank.

The entire Division 3 round five fixture will take place this Saturday, while Division 1 and 2 will also play on the same afternoon.
