League responds to heated clash

The Limestone Coast Football Netball League has responded promptly to the cancellation of an underage football match on Saturday.

The 17.5 and Under match between Casterton and Millicent at McLaughlin Park was called off by the umpire with six minutes remaining in the final term.

The Saints led the Cats by 44 points (9.13 to 3.5).

League president Kurt Slaven said the rules state these scores stand and the premiership points will be awarded to Millicent.

“The game was called off due to continuous rough play and fighting involving both teams,” Slaven said.

“The umpire has a duty of care to the players and he took the correct decision to call off the game.

“The Limestone Coast League spoke to both clubs on Monday night and said such behaviour will not be tolerated,” Slaven said.

“They were told the clubs and their coaches must take control of their players.”

At the end of round two, Millicent sits in fourth place on the premiership table while Casterton is sixth.

A match report was published in the Casterton News on Tuesday and it can be accessed via The SE Voice website – www.sevoice.com.au
