Some of the best players from the Limestone Coast Women’s Football League came together on the weekend to represent the South East in the South Australian Country Championships.

The carnival was held in Victor Harbor with games being played at Victor Harbor and Encounter Bay ovals.

The South East team comprised players from Casterton Sandford, Kybybolite, Millicent, Mundulla, North Gambier, Penola and South Gambier.

The side was coached by Kybybolite premiership coach Chris Boston with Casterton Sandford’s Scarlett Jarrad as assistant coach.

Mundulla’s Erin Horsnell was the captain with Kellsie Turner also from Mundulla as vice captain.

The team kicked off the weekend on Friday night against Eyre Peninsula, and like the men they fell short by two points.

Captain Horsnell led by example and was a stand out player with Casterton’s Chloe Finnigan also putting up a solid performance.

On Saturday the side took on Central and once again had a close game.

The girls fell short by a point with Casterton’s Libby Altorfer having a great game and North Gambier’s Alice Tentye kicking two goals.

After finishing fourth on the ladder the team took on Eyre Peninsula again in the 3v4 final, however they could not get the job done a second time round and lost by 44 points.

Kybybolite’s Jedah Huf was a stand out player in this game as well as Penola’s Shandeen Balshaw.

The South East team had three representatives in the team of the championship with North Gambier’s Tess Andrews in the centre and on the interchange North Gambier’s Alice Tentye and Mundulla’s Zoe Hawker.

Andrews was also awarded with the SE Women’s Zone Team Player of the Carnival.
