Library repairs progress

The long-awaited repairs to the Millicent Library can proceed after a $244,000 tender was recently awarded to a local firm by Wattle Range Council.

Its roof had been leaking for many months and caused some areas to be declared out-of-bounds to the general public.

The 31-year-old building’s air conditioning has also not functioned properly and will also be rectified with the installation of new units.

The tender involves replacement of the leaking roof and renovation of the mouldy, water-damaged ceiling in the children’s library and the Bruce Towers history room.

Councillors had considered a staff report on the two submitted tenders on a confidential basis.

This report has been released to the public but the unsuccessful tenderer was not identified.

Its price was $474,000 and almost twice the successful bid.

The motion to award the tender to a Millicent company was moved by Councillor Emma Castine and seconded by Cr Richard Cassidy and carried.
