Life could
be a bream

The Cranka Glenelg Shire Bream Classic will converge on the Glenelg River this weekend.

It will be the third of the five qualifying rounds held across Victoria and the grand final takes place at a different location every year.

“We are looking forward to heading down to Nelson and hear the fishing is going really well and should be a big weekend,” said tournament director Bill Hartshorne.

“A total of 43 teams are entered and some 90 anglers are coming and some very well-known around the country.

“Paul Malov and Brad Hodges will be two big names amongst the rest of the competition both of these are well known to most and are very popular.”

On the local front Ben Jeffery will be at the pointy end of fishing over the two days.

Jeffery spends a lot of time on the Glenelg River when not working or running his own little business LUREBACK.

Hartshorne said the series has grown a reputation across its 17-year history.

“The series started back in 2005 and now in its 17th year of the series,” he said.

“We have been to Nelson so many times and have held grand finals there.

“Also, the Glenelg River is not synonymous with big bags of fish like we see in East Gippsland but what makes up for it is the scenery and the river system is so unique and the by catch of Mulloway and the Perch are always good too.

“There are numerous prizes on offer for the angler with the JML biggest bream, Sunline best bag and award right down to 10th spot.

“We also give away random prizes at the briefing Friday night and even if you’re not the best angler there is a chance you will get one over the weekend as well.

“Also, there are a lot of new anglers coming in and the regulars are teaching them the ropes and it also keeps the series alive.”

Pre fish day is on Friday where anglers will get out to sort the best spots and the actual event start Saturday morning at 7am till 2pm and then again on Sunday at the same time.

Weigh ins will take place at the Nelson Hotel from 2pm on Saturday and Sunday and if you cannot make it will be live streamed on the Vic Bream Classic Facebook page.

Get over to Nelson on the weekend if you are wanting to see some of the best and enjoy the atmosphere.
