Respected Beachport swimming instructor Julie Moran has recently been given an Award of Excellence by Surf Life Saving South Australia.
The Beachport Surf Life Saving Club member was recognised in the Education category at the annual SLSSA awards ceremony along with Hannah Darling (Grange Surf Life Saving Club) and Kurruru Culture Hub (North Haven Surf Life Saving Club).
“These individuals and groups have worked tirelessly this season to champion inclusivity and educate hundreds of surf lifesavers across South Australia,” a SLSSA spokesperson said.
“Their dedication, knowledge and mentorship ensure our movement can continue to grow and thrive.”
Ms Moran is well-known for overseeing many hundreds of Vacswim youngsters at Beachport over 30 summers.
Beachport has one of the largest Vacswim Groups in SA and Ms Moran was the instructor in charge for nearly all this time.
With a background as an experienced classroom teacher, Ms Moran and her family live close to the waters of Rivoli Bay and they are all involved with the Beachport Surf Lifesaving Club.
Her husband Shannon Moran is a third-generation professional lobster fisherman.
Ms Moran was a foundation member of the Beachport Community Emergency Response Team for SA Ambulance Service and was the 2017 Wattle Range Council Kintore Ward Australia Day Citizen of the Year.
