THE world-renowned fire-fighting sky cranes were brought in to help crews on the ground, as lightning wreaked havoc across the district, last week.
As of 5pm Thursday, 28 fires attributed to lightning strikes, which began on Monday night, were being fought across the south west, with CFA and Forest Fire Management crews working on the ground and supported by 14 aircraft, to bring the fires under control.
The two largest blazes were at Budj Bim, west of Macarthur and in the Roseneath State Forest, south-west of Dergholm, which burned more than 1300 and 1000 hectares, respectively and were declared under control, on Sunday.
