Lions dominance continues

Men

Gambier Centrals v Apollo

Gambier Centrals’ dominant start to the Barry Maney Premier League season continued on Friday night with a big win over Apollo under lights at MGA Park.

It took very little time for Centrals to take control of the match as Sam Shoemark found the back of the net only two minutes into the match.

The Lions continued to apply pressure on Apollo as they hit the scoreboard again with Shoemark scoring his second only 10 minutes after the first.

The tough start continued for Apollo when Mathew Pohlner was shown a red card in the 32nd minute with the side reduced to one less player on the pitch.

Centrals capitalised not long after as Shoemark scored his third for the night, only four minutes after Apollo went down to 10 men.

The Lions went into half time with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Defensively Apollo were much better in the second half as they did well to hold off Centrals for most of the period.

However they could not hold off Central’s attack forever as Shoemark struck again for his fourth goal of the night in the 85th minute.

Centrals finished strong in the final few minutes as Shoemark scored another while Matthew Porter hit the scoreboard in the 93rd minute to seal the 6-0 victory.

Sam Shoemark finished with another monster game, scoring five goals.

Gambier Centrals defeated Apollo 6-0.

Portland Panthers v International

International picked up a solid win on the road on Saturday evening as they took on the Panthers in Portland.

It was a fairly competitive contest to start the match as neither side could hit the scoreboard early.

Inter finally broke through to take the lead in the 31st minute when Matt Bueti found the back of the net to give his side the lead.

Shortly after another Bueti found the back of the net as Sam hit the scoreboard to give Inter a two goal lead going into half time.

Inter put their foot on the pedal in the second half as they pulled away from Portland and added to their lead early on as both Buetis found the back of the net to double their lead.

Portland continued to struggle as they conceded another two quick goals from Matt Bueti.

The Panthers finally hit the scoreboard late in the half as Dylan Murray found the back of the net.

Shortly after Matt Bueti scored again to help seal the big win, finishing the game with five goals.

Naracoorte United v Millicent United

Naracoorte United picked up their first win in over a year as they took on Millicent United in Naracoorte on Sunday.

Naracoorte started strong in the first half as they took an early lead three minutes in with a goal from Kadir Ahmed.

Shortly after Naracoorte hit the scoreboard again as Ramin Shojaie kicked truly to give his side a two goal lead.

Despite being down by two goals early, Millicent continued to battle hard as they worked themselves back into the match when Leandro Rodriguez found the back of the net right before half time to cut into Naracoorte’s lead.

It did not take long for Naracoorte to pull away again in the new term as Mujtaba Hussaini scored early on.

However Millicent refused to go down quietly as they continued to fight their way back into the game as Mema Mahungu got on the scoreboard to cut it back to a one goal buffer.

Millicent’s persistence continued late into the half as they finally found the equalising goal in the 74th minute with Koshish Rai finding the back of the net.

Just when it looked like the match was going to end in a draw Naracoorte kept the pressure on as they finally broke through again in extra time with Hussaini scoring the winning goal to secure Naracoorte a much needed win.
