Lions roar to action

Boneham Aged Care Services in Millicent has drawn closer to replacing its minibus thanks to a recent $10,000 donation from the Millicent Lions Club.

Chief executive Michael Filsell accepted the donation from outgoing club president David Taylor and incoming club president Brenton McMillan.

The existing minibus is in steady use taking residents to appointments and on excursions but needs to be replaced.

A fundraising appeal began last year and has attracted donations from other local groups as well as local individuals, families and businesses.

In other Millicent Lions news, dedicated member Graham Arney was awarded life membership at the recent changeover dinner at the Beachport Hotel.

Meanwhile, there were honours plenty as well at the annual changeover dinner of the Lions Club of Beachport and Rivoli Bay.

It was also held at the Beachport Hotel.

Derek Long has succeeded Keith Sneath as the club president while long-serving member Ian “Squeak” Lister received the coveted honour of a Melvin Jones Fellowship.

Mr Long retired to Beachport a few years ago after spending more than 20 years as a police officer in this region.

His local postings were at Kalangadoo, Mount Gambier and Millicent.
