Lobster prices on rise

The beach price for Southern Zone lobster has hit a season high of $90 per kilogram.

Fishers have received this premium price for larger lobsters above the 1.25kg size.

Meanwhile, a leading retailer in the capital city has recently increased their retail price for cooked lobster to $105 per kilogram. One South East eatery is charging diners $150 for a lobster meal.

The 2024/25 season for professionals began on September 1 and the catch rates are said to be satisfactory.

Fishers and the Federal Government remain hopeful the import bans placed on Australian lobsters by China around four years ago will soon be lifted.
