Locals in Business – Bare Necessities Lingerie

Mount Gambier’s Bare Necessities Lingerie provides a special service to residents across the Limestone Coast, Western Victoria and beyond.

The Commercial Street business opened in 2012, with owner Sharon Tuffnell bringing more than 20 years of experience in ladies fashion and lingerie.

Bare Necessities is Mount Gambier’s only locally owned and independent lingerie store, providing exceptional customer service and knowledge.

The store stocks lingerie, sleepwear, swimwear, hosiery and post breast surgery products from world renowned suppliers, with staff fully trained in bra fittings, with a wide range of styles and sizes.

The team also has extended its fitting services to those unable to attend the store personally by visiting them at home or while in aged care.

Sharon and her team have recently launched an online presence, adding another option for those unable to visit the store in person.

“In 2020 when COVID restrictions started we closed for two weeks to give ourselves breathing space and work out how we were able to develop and continue to grow the business,” Sharon said.

“During this time fittings were restricted, there were limits on the number of people allowed in store and it was challenging, but we came back bigger and stronger than ever thanks to our wonderful customers who have continued to shop with us.”

It was at this time Sharon opted to venture into the world of online sales, it took a while but a website was developed and is now up and running.

barenecessitieslingerie.com.au is a fantastic way to reach a larger audience with orders going out around Australia and even overseas.

Sharon said she did not see the website replacing what her team does in-store, with the focus remaining on face-to-face customer service, however the website can help Bare Necessities continue to grow in such uncertain times to offer quality products to those unable to leave home.

Bare Necessities supports many local groups and not for profit organisations including Share the Dignity (sanitary products for those in need), The Uplift project (bra recycling), The Mount Gambier Breast Cancer support group (helping handbags) and the Mount Gambier Cancer Support Group.

Sharon and her team’s dedication was recognised in 2015 when Bare Necessities was named the Mount Gambier Chamber of Commerce’s Best Small Business.
