Locals record big results in annual swimming carnival

SHARNA FIDLER

SWIMMING

CASTERTON Swimming Club seems to have some little fish in our ranks, with members racking-up a big list of personal bests at our annual swimming carnival – some by very impressive margins.

The carnival was once again well-supported by clubs from Hamilton, Mount Gambier, Penola, Portland, and Warrnambool as well as further afield from Camperdown and Melbourne.

With more than 50 entrants in total, it made for a great day of competitive swimming.

Our club has enjoyed a fantastic influx of new and returning swimmers this season who competed in a total of 67 events on the day.

For some this was their first carnival and their enthusiasm and efforts were a credit to our fantastic coaches, Cale Zippel and Zoe Rouse.

Zoe competed in five events herself, so she was busy!

The sun did not come out until later in the day, so there were a few blue lips and chattery teeth about earlier in the day – thank you to Pat and Lauren Smith for keeping us warm with their coffee and hot chocolates.

Our carnival has a reputation for having amazing raffle prizes and thanks to the generosity of our local businesses, this year certainly did not disappoint!

We are so grateful for the impressive prizes we had on offer that were well received, we cannot thank you all enough.

Jenny Ough and her team of officials from the Wimmera are absolute professionals in their field, we thank them for once again running a smooth carnival.

A big thank you must also go to our hard-working committee for their efforts leading up to and on the day; they were well-supported by parents and grandparents who assisted with timekeeping, marshalling, announcing results and cooking the delicious barbecue.

Without their support, events like these simply could not happen.

Thank you to all involved.
