Major road upgrades under way

Major roads will be closed due to roadworks this week as part of the $190m Princes Highway Corridor Upgrade program which is delivering infrastructure upgrades on the Princes Highway Corridor, from Meningie to the South Australian/Victorian border.

Pavement works are being undertaken at the Princes Highway intersection with The Springs Road and Burrungule Road to improve road quality and safety at the intersection.

Access between Princes Highway and The Springs Road will be temporarily closed (including outside of working hours) from yesterday (Monday July 22) for approximately three weeks, weather permitting.

Following completion of this stage of work, access between the Princes Highway and Burrungule Road will be closed for approximately two weeks while remaining works are completed.

The works will take place between the hours of 6.30am – 6pm from Monday to Saturday and will be completed in late October, weather permitting.

A notice issued by the Department for Transport and Infrastructure (DIT) states there will be changes to traffic conditions for the duration of works for safety purposes.

“To minimise impacts to road users and the community, works will be completed on one half of the intersection at a time. Relevant detours will be in place for the duration of closures,” the notice said.

“Princes Highway will remain open at all times with traffic reduced to a single lane intermittently during working hours.

“Onsite traffic controllers will be in place to help manage the flow of traffic.

“Outside of working hours, lane restrictions on the Princes Highway traffic will be removed, with speed restrictions in place subject to onsite conditions.”

The DIT urges motorists to plan their trips, be cautious around workers and follow the speed limits and signs.

“Some noise disturbance can be expected at times while these works are completed, however we will minimise disturbance, as much as practically possible,” the notice read.

“You might also notice some odours when travelling through the area, which is normal during asphalt works.

“Following completion of pavement works, speed restrictions will remain in place until line marking, and finishing works are completed.”
