Man charged with raft of theft offences

AMount Gambier man in his 30s has been charged with a raft of stealing-related offences across South Australia and Western Victoria, including the theft of a bin from the Casterton tip.

Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit’s Detective Sergeant Mark James said the man was arrested as the result of an ongoing investigation, including the execution of search warrants at properties in Point Cook and Hoppers Crossing, in Melbourne’s west.

Det Sgt James said the man was arrested on May 27 and police allege he was driving a stolen truck that had been used in the theft of a skip bin from Casterton Waste Transfer Station on Bahgallah Road in March.

The hook-lift truck was allegedly stolen from a Melbourne property in September last year.

During further investigations, police received information on the location of other items reported as stolen and a search warrant was subsequently executed on a Point Cook property on May 30, where the skip bin was recovered, along with other items listed as stolen from properties across both South Australia and Victoria.

The following day a warrant was executed on a Hoppers Crossing address where other property was seized, alleged to be proceeds of burglaries also committed across Western Victoria and South Australia.

The Mount Gambier man has been remanded to appear in court later this year.

With one investigation wrapped-up, police are searching for offenders responsible for the theft of a motorbike from a Corndale property, sometime over the weekend of June 15 and 16.

The property owners were away from home on Saturday and believe the theft happened sometime between Saturday morning and Sunday morning.

The missing bike is a 2023 black Harley Street Glide and at the time of the theft, was bearing the registration plates 5A 1QL, though the owner believes whoever has the bike would probably remove them.

Anyone with information about the bike, or its registration plates, should phone Crime Stoppers immediately on 1800 333 000.
