Grant District Mayor Kylie Boston has declined an informal nomination to become a representative on the South Australian Regional Organisation of Councils (SAROC).
At its July monthly meeting, council was informed the SAROC is seeking nominations to fill two vacancies.
Councillor Megan Dukalskis informally asked Mayor Boston if she would accept nomination.
“No, not at the moment. I had not honestly thought about it,” Mayor Boston said.
The terms of the current members of SAROC expire at the 2024 LGA Annual General Meeting.
A request has been made by LGA chief executive Clinton Jury, seeking nominations to fill two vacancies to the regional grouping of Councils on SAROC.
Previously council resolved the LCLGA Board president and vice president are automatically nominated to the SAROC Board, however each council may independently nominate representatives.
SAROC committee members are appointed for a two-year term, with the current committee members term ending in October.
Current SAROC committee representatives from the LCLGA include Mount Gambier City Mayor Lynette Martin and Wattle Range Mayor Des Noll.
However, Mayor Noll recently announced he would not be seeking a further two years when his term expires.
Mayor Martin has been renominated which was endorsed by City Council at its July monthly meeting.
Mr Jury also informed council the LGA is also seeking nominations for the position of president.
Under the LGA Constitution and the SAROC Terms of Reference, once members are elected to SAROC, these members then elect a chair person and three SAROC members to the LGA Board of Directors.
To be eligible for nomination, a person must be a council member and be a current member of the SAROC Committee and have been in that role for at least one year.
Subsequently, without a representative on the SAROC, Grant council has no nominee for the position of LGA president.
