Mayoral tribute paid

Wattle Range Mayoral aspirant Leith Forrest continues to work on his 2044 election campaign.

The Adelaide radio announcer and ex-local has outlined his plan in an article he penned for the 50+ magazine.

He paid tribute to late Millicent Mayor Ern Altschwager who held the top civic role between 1980 and 1991.

Mr Altschwager died in Adelaide in 2003 at the age of 83.

His impact on Mr Forrest was marked when he was a student at the Millicent High School in the 1980s and 1990s.

“I remember sitting, standing and watching with respect to our then Mayor Ern Altschwager addressing the Millicent High School Assembly,” he said.

“I remember Mr Altschwager being present and speaking at every major community function.”

Faced with this example, Mr Forrest said his post-radio career in 20 years’ time would involve returning to Millicent and seeking the mayoralty.

“On that note, I am already starting to try and think like a mayor,” he said.

There has since been a positive response on social media to Mr Forrest’s plans including from a past elected member of Wattle Range Council.
