Meet your team behind The SE Voice newspaper

Meet your team behind The SE Voice newspaper

In the next instalment of our “Meet the Team” articles, we head to the design room to meet our creative gurus Dean Hill and Sophie Bohner.

The dynamic duo is responsible for designing and creating the advertising for The SE Voice, as well as overseeing feature designs.

Dean Hill

I finished my studies in graphic design in August 2017.

I was working in sales at Optus when I saw an advert in The Border Watch (TBW) for a graphic designer and though it would be a great opportunity to start my career in graphic design.

I really enjoy being able to work in an industry that is so interesting and doing a job I love, centred on graphic design.

When the TBW shut down it was a big disappointment, but when approached by The SE Voice, I jumped at the opportunity to continue doing what I love.

I do have my own business Dean Hill Graphic Design at printdesign-web.com.au where I provide graphic design, social media, web and print services and run two Facebook groups to help the local community – facebook.com/groups/limestonecoastmylocal and facebook.com/groups/limestonecoastrestaurantsandcafes.

I have lived and worked here since 2006, but also spent three years in Mexico from 2009-2011.

I’m married to my beautiful wife Gabriela and we have two gorgeous daughters Grace and Emilia.

I speak Spanish, which I learnt while in Mexico.

I love to travel and have worked in Canada and travelled in the United States, Guatemala and Mexico.

I had the opportunity to spent three years in Mexico helping in three orphanages where I made furniture, taught basic English and Bible studies with the children and met some amazing people and also where I met my wife and got married.

We returned to Australia in March, 2012 and have lived in Mount Gambier since.

When I have free time I love spending it with my family.

We enjoy going on short day trips around the region and looking for something fun to do together.

Sophie Bohner

I was born in Millicent, grew up in Alice Springs, went to school in Adelaide and university in Melbourne.

I then took a gap year and lived in the UK for a year before returning to Adelaide where I began work as a graphic designer in 2005 at OTA Marketing/Graphic Print Group.

I moved to Sydney in 2008 and worked for a large format/POS company called Active Display Group for three and a half years, where my clients included Revlon, Estee Lauder and Unilever.

From there I moved on to Fox Studios where I worked as a print production coordinator for SONY DADC print division as their representative for 21st Century Fox.

After years of busy city life, I decided to make the move to be closer to my parents and family in Mount Gambier and Millicent, where I began working at TBW and worked as a graphic designer until its closure a few months ago.

Following that, I was thrilled to join The SE Voice team and very grateful for the opportunity to keep doing what I love.

My fiancé (soon to be husband) also moved here from Sydney for us to begin a new chapter of life together.

He is an interstate truck driver at South West Freight and moving to Mount Gambier was the best thing we ever did.

We love getting out and about and exploring the region.

We love country life and the sense of community you get living in a smaller place.

In my spare time I do strength training and compete in strongman and powerlifting at Povey Performance with a great bunch of people.

Being physically strong has changed my life in so many positive ways!

Other than that I love spending time with my partner Russ, coffee, wine and being creative.

I also adore our whippet Reuben. He is the (other) love of my life and I enjoy taking him everywhere with me. He also has great outfits!
