‘Mega night’ of women’s football on cards

It will be a mega night of women’s football tonight as teams lace up for games on both sides of the border.

The 2022 Veolia Limestone Coast Women’s Football League ventures to Victoria for the first time at Island Park, while the other half of the competition remains at Millicent’s McLaughlin Park.

Kicking off the action in Victoria will be the match of the round between Mundulla and South Gambier.

Fresh from a week off, the Demons will be determined to return to their winning ways from earlier in the season.

Well led by coach Simon Radley and co-captains Melanie Bateman and Kendell Saffin, South was an unstoppable force conquering all before them.

Mundulla will be aware of the Demons’ threat and hope the bye has caught the reigning premiers off-guard.

However, Mundulla coach Michael Hunt has some inside knowledge few teams have.

The captain who led South to a glorious premiership last year was Kaylene Nuske, but she is now wearing the Mundulla brown and gold.

How she fares against her old club will be the biggest storyline from this massive clash.

Later that night the home crowd receives the chance to cheer on Casterton Sandford in a must-win battle against Kongorong.

Both sides are locked at three wins each and this result could go a long way towards determining the fate of the last semi-finals berth.

The Cats have played the more attractive football taking games on and winning them by big margins, while the young Hawks are full of belief and fight after emerging victorious from some gritty games.

Picking a winner in this blockbuster battle will be a challenge.

Some more one-sided games are on the cards at Millicent.

Opening proceedings will be Penola and North Gambier.

Looking to establish themselves as one of the leading contenders, the Eagles’ attack should prove overwhelming for the Tigers’ defence.

Still struggling to get off the mark in 2022, Millicent hopes its home game can make some magic as it faces the daunting task of taking on the might of Kybybolite under lights.
