Golfers from across the region recently accepted the invitation of the Millicent Golf Club to challenge for the annual Arch Sunderland Memorial Trophy.
They attended an open weekend with a two ball ambrose played on Saturday and a men’s stroke event played on Sunday.
The event attracted visiting members from Casterton, Heywood and Lang Lang, Lucindale, Penola, Blue Lake, Kingston, Beachport and Mount Gambier.
Sixty-eight players took to the field on Saturday to play the ambrose, with the best nett score of the day from local Millicent members Shane Stevens and John Facey with a nett 60.
Runners up were Trevor Atkinson and Stephen Kuhl (Millicent) with a nett 63.5.
Best off the stick for the day were Penola’s Jock Agnew and Donald Ferguson with 69.
Runners up were Millicent’s Andrew Ferguson and Gianni Giurastante with 70.
A field of 42 players played an 18-hole stroke round the next day, with organisers declaring the field a little disappointing as a $500 prize was on offer for the winner of the Arch Sunderland Memorial Trophy.
The trophy, awarded to the lowest nett score of the day, went to Angus Altschwager with a nett 67.
Other winners were A Grade winner best nett score Greg Cook nett 73, runner up Ian Greenwood (75) best off the stick Liam Chant (78) and runner up Andrew Ferguson (81).
B Grade winner best nett score was Trevor Atkinson nett 69, runner up Paul Whitford (75), best off the stick Scott Lonergan (89) and runner up Vyv Bennison (89).
In C Grade the winner best nett score was Angus Altschwager nett 67, runner up best Shannon Ash (Beachport 79), best off the stick Tyler Shanks (100) and runner up Alex Wesolowski (Beachport 104).
Nearest to pin on par 3 fifth hole for all players was Rob Walker from Lang Lang, while the nearest the pin on the 17th hole for A Grade was Terry Chant, and nearest the pin on par 3 13th for B Grade was Trevor Atkinson.
